Update 1/5/2011
“The Cleveland Cavaliers just offered me a full-time job and a house! A house! A house!” If you were listening to WNCI’s 97.9 with “Dave & Jimmy” this morning in Columbus this is what you heard from an ecstatic and surprised Ted Williams. Don’t know who Ted is? Well you will.
Williams, the homeless man who spread around the world like wild fire yesterday thanks to social media outlets, has finally found hope. The self proclaimed “golden voice of radio” was found off of highway 71 in Ohio pandering for money when a reporter for the Columbus Dispatch interviewed him and put a clip on the website Tuesday. By Tuesday night, Williams had offers from ”The Simpsons,” Entertainment Tonight, ABC, NBC, CBS, ESPN, MTV, you name it, they were asking. One caller to “Dave & Jimmy” even offered $15,000 if the radio station would hire him on the spot.
The popular Columbus radio program “Dave & Jimmy” on WNCI 97.9 tracked Ted down for an on-air interview today where he was visibly shaken by the amount of offers he had been receiving from the various companies with the hosts calming him by telling him that they have people working on collecting all the offers to help. Then, claiming they had the biggest surprise ever, called Tracy, a representative for the Cavs, offering him a job with the Cavs and not only that, a mortgage on a house through QuickenLoans.
